Program Requirements

A sample of academic or professional writing up to 6,000 words long and personal statement of up to 1,500 words describing how you would advance by pursuing a degree in American Studies. For nondegree: see footnote below. Prospective students who are applying full time and want to be considered for a GA/TA appointment must have their application submitted by December 15, 2024

Test Requirements

Applicants must submit official transcripts, personal statement, three letters of recommendation, and a writing sample. Rutgers University-Newark accepts the Duolingo English Test. The Duolingo English Test is an online English language proficiency test that can be taken via a camera-enabled computer. When you receive your results, you can share your scores with Rutgers-Newark. The minimum Duolingo score is 130.
