Program Requirements

Online application and application fee, Official transcripts, Personal Statement, and professional Resume


If you have completed education outside of the U.S.:


An official translated evaluation of all transcripts is required to be sent to the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions. International transcript evaluation services can be found by visiting the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) website https://www.naces.org/members. Transcripts must be evaluated and certified for authenticity and U.S. equivalency.


If applying as an international student, please reference the Graduate Admissions site for more information relating to TOEFL/IELTS requirements and I-20 financial documentation.


Deadlines are flexible as we review applications on a rolling basis. Applicants have a hard stop on the deadline dates listed. All applicants are encouraged to complete their applications earlier than later.


**Note to GLU applicants:  This W/R certificate is Phase 1 of the Rutgers GLU program. Please follow the instructions on the application with the necessary test scores and official transcript evaluations as instructed. Upon completion of this certificate, only those invited will be permitted to apply to Phase 2 of the GLU program. Please reach out specifically to the GLU contact on the MLER website for more information.


Test Requirements

International students must submit the TOEFL exam results to show their English language skills as all courses are conducted in English and are not prone to language translation.


Personal Statement Instructions

A Personal Statement specifying your past experiences, reasons for applying, and your professional areas of interest. It should explain your intellectual and personal goals, why you are interested in pursuing this degree, and how this degree fits into your intellectual and personal future.
