Program Requirements

Five business days after submitting the Rutgers University application, all applicants will be sent the Mason Gross supplemental application. The supplemental application requires applicants to submit an additional $75 music audition fee, prescreening materials (voice, opera, piano), three letters of recommendation, and audition date selection. Piano, voice, and opera applicants should submit the Rutgers University application by December 1 and the Mason Gross supplemental application by December 15. All other instruments should submit the Rutgers University application by December 15 and the Mason Gross supplemental application by January 15. Test Requirements

All performance programs are required to complete an audition.

An on-site writing sample is required for MM international applicants and all DMA applicants.

All music education programs require a scholarly writing sample and interview (by invitation).

We are not accepting collaborative piano applications for the 2020 admissions cycle.

For PhD or MA, apply to Music (Composition, Theory, Musicology) in the School of Graduate Studies.

All applicants to the Performance, Music Education, Theory, Musicology, and Composition Programs are required to submit a separate $75.00 non-refundable file evaluation fee to the Music Department as a part of the supplemental application.
