Personal Statement Instructions

A personal statement should explain your motivation for pursuing a PhD degree, describing your previous research experience(s) and highlighting objectives, challenges and outcomes. If there is something you feel the Admission Committee should know about you, include it in your statement.

Program Questions

How many months of prior, full-time (more than 30 hours per week) research experience, do you have? This might include months spent in a summer program, as a lab technician, or doing research for a Masters degree. (Enter number of months from 0-48)

How many months of prior, part-time (8-30 hours per week) research experience do you have? This might include months spent in a lab during the academic year or part-time volunteering during the summer. Do not include participation in labs associated with a course such as organic chemistry. (Enter number of months from 0-48)

Note

For Ph.D. programs only: submit one application for review by the Molecular Biosciences Interdisciplinary Admissions Committee for programs in Biochemistry, Cell and Developmental Biology, Pharmacology, Cellular and Molecular, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, and Physiology and Integrated Biology.
