Program Requirements

Official transcripts of all prior academic work, 3 letters of recommendation (at least two from professors, if possible), writing sample (e.g. an academic paper or professional report), written statement of purpose, official GRE scores, TOEFL scores for non-native English speakers For nondegree: see footnote below.

Test Requirements

GRE scores are required for all applicants. TOEFL scores are required for non-native English speakers.

Personal Statement Instructions

In the personal statement, please discuss your educational and work backgrounds that qualify you for this program, your reasons for pursuing a Ph.D., and specific areas of interest and research questions within the field of Global Urban Studies. Discuss why this program is a good fit for you.

Note

The program in Urban Systems is offered jointly with the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Rutgers-Newark. The Global Urban Studies track is offered through the Rutgers Graduate School - Newark and the Urban Health track is offered through the Rutgers School of Nursing. Students interested in these tracks should apply through Rutgers. Students interested in the Urban Environment track should apply through NJIT: www.njit.edu.

Current non-degree students will only be permitted to take a total of 12 credits before they must apply to the program for matriculation. Application fee, personal statement, and transcripts must be submitted in order to be considered for non-degree study.
